
STA Sewage Treatment Additive is a highly active microbial treatment developed for biological sewage treatment plants, marine sanitation devices and sewage holding tanks onboard ships and offshore installations.
The formulation supports start-up, routine maintenance and recovery following system upset or toxic shock. It helps maintain biological activity, improve BOD reduction, control sludge build-up and reduce unpleasant odours within marine sewage systems.
STA is supplied in convenient 100 g cold-water-soluble PVA sachets for simple dosing onboard.

The formulation can be used to improve sludge settlement, support floc formation and stabilise activated sludge.
STA Sewage Treatment Additive is suitable for use in Type II and Type III marine sanitation devices.
In Type II systems, periods of low usage and reduced flow can result in starvation of the biomass and eventual washout. STA can be used to help maintain biological activity until normal flow is restored.
The treatment can also support systems experiencing high volume or increased influent BOD.
Following toxic shock caused by substances such as bleach, laundry detergents or harsh cleaning chemicals, STA can be used to help restore a healthy bacterial population once the source of the toxic shock has passed.
STA contains a specialised blend of microbial cultures selected for the biodegradation of organic materials typically found in sewage waste.
The formulation also contains a balanced macronutrient package with a carbon-to-nitrogen ratio of 20:1. This supports rapid bacterial growth and helps maintain biological activity during start-up and periods of low flow.
Micronutrients, including trace metals, are provided through a slow-release seaweed extract.
The bacterial consortium is supported by free enzymes, including lipase, amylase, protease and cellulase.
The bacterial strains used in STA are resistant to chlorine concentrations of approximately 20 ppm.
A chlorine-quenching additive provides additional protection against accidental chlorine release up to 100 ppm.
The formulation also contains a specialised organic ingredient designed to bind heavy and toxic light metals that could otherwise reduce the respiratory activity of the biomass.

Dose 2–5 × 100 g sachets per 1 m³/day for three days.
Dose 1 × 100 g sachet per 1 m³/day as required, depending on system load and influent BOD.

Sachets can be added directly to the marine sanitation device reactor. Alternatively, they can be placed in the nearest toilet bowl, allowed to dissolve completely and then flushed into the system.
