The Ocean Signal rescueME MOB1 is one of the most compact AIS man overboard devices available on the market. Designed for direct integration into an inflatable lifejacket, the MOB1 automatically activates when the lifejacket inflates, transmitting the casualty’s position via AIS (Automatic Identification System) and sending a DSC (Digital Selective Calling) alert to the vessel’s own VHF radio. ⚠️ Regulatory Notice: Due to the introduction of the AIS Class M regulation (ECC/DEC/(22)02), the MOB1 will not be compliant for use in certain European waters after 31 December 2024. This regulation restricts AIS transmissions from non-Class M devices. Operators in affected regions must verify compliance before use. For continued regulatory compliance, Ocean Signal recommends the rescueME MOB2, which includes full Class M approval.

Usage Restrictions and Compliance

• The rescueME MOB1 does not meet the new AIS Class M requirement for DSC capability on Channel 70.


• From 1 January 2025, the MOB1 will be restricted or prohibited in regions enforcing Class M rules, including Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Georgia, Moldova, Slovak Republic, and Switzerland.


• Other regions may adopt this regulation in the near future.


• The MOB1 remains legal in non-Class M jurisdictions but should not be considered a substitute for an EPIRB or PLB.
