IMPA:
The Drew Marine Microbiological Dual Assay Slides (PCN 6923016) are specialized tools designed for the rapid, semi-quantitative assessment of bacterial and fungal contamination in water samples. Each slide features two distinct agar-coated surfaces housed within a clear plastic vial, facilitating easy handling and incubation.
Dual-Sided Design: One side of the slide is coated with a clear gold agar medium for total bacterial count, while the opposite side features a pink/red medium to detect yeast and mold presence.
Ease of Use: The slide is attached to the vial cap, serving as a convenient handle and sterile receptacle for incubation.
Applications: Suitable for monitoring biological contamination in various aqueous systems, including potable water, cooling systems, and ballast water.
Unscrew the cap and remove the paddle without touching the agar surfaces.
Immerse the paddle into the water sample, ensuring both sides are fully wetted.
Allow excess liquid to drip off without shaking, then return the paddle to the vial and secure the cap.
Label the vial with relevant information.
Incubate the vial upright at 25°C to 30°C.
Examine the bacterial side after 24–48 hours for red colony growth.
Inspect the yeast/mold side after 48–120 hours for pink colonies (yeast) and fuzzy growth (mold).
Compare colony densities to the provided chart to estimate contamination levels.
After analysis, sterilize the slide by adding 10 mL of sodium hypochlorite to the vial and allowing it to sit for at least 30 minutes before disposal.
